We just completed our annual Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Activity Center. Many thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers who helped make it a resounding success. This year was a record for the Friends group – We had an estimated 900 people (we were so busy helping we forgot to count sometimes) shop at the book sale this year and $3,851 was raised for programming and events at the library. Thank you also to the community for supporting such a fun event. Thank you to the Lansing High School National English Honor Society, Leavenworth/Lansing JROTC cadets and the WalMart employees who helped with moving boxes of books, unpacking, and then carrying boxes out to cars! We couldn’t have done it without their help! Mark your calendars for April 3th – 5th for the next book sale.

The Friends next event will be another Paint & Sip event on June 14th. Doors open at 6:00pm and painting starts at 6:30pm at the Community Center. We will be painting “Calm at the Beach” this time. You can register here, Facebook page (LansingCommunityLibrary) for the link or call the library (913-727-2929) to register over the phone. The Friends will provide light snacks for the evening and you are welcome to BYOB – whatever you choose that to be. This event is for adults 18+. Participants under the age of 21 are required to have an adult over 21 with them.

Wondering about the Friends organization since I have mentioned them so many times? Well, they are the group that helps with fundraising for the library, sponsors events, and volunteers at the library. We are always looking for people to help out with everything from events to shelving. As a member of the Friends group, you can register early for events like our Paint & Sip Night, come to the book sale on Friday night for a first look/buy, and have fun in planning new projects. Interested in becoming involved? Find out more at our next meeting on May 15th at 6pm at the Library or stop by and see us, check out their Facebook page, or register on our website.

Parks and Recreation and the Library are partnering this year to offer summer camps for youth entering 3rd – 5th grade for the 2019/2020 school year.  Campers may only register for ONE session. The two sessions offered will be June 17 – 21 or OR July 15 – 19.  Campers will report to the Lansing Community Library at 9 a.m. and stay until Noon each day of their chosen session.  They will be crafting, painting, creating and enjoying fun performances!  A pizza party will be held on the final camp day for all participants.  Cost for the camp is $45/child.  Spots are limited so select your session and register early.
